Stair rise and run calculator
Explore purely geometric riser and tread measurements. No sign-up or payment required.
Country is a personal preference only in this beta. No local prices, codes or jurisdiction-specific standards are applied.

How this calculator works
Risers = ceil(total rise ÷ target maximum riser); actual rise = total rise ÷ risers; assumed treads = risers − 1.
What to check before ordering
Geometric illustration only. Codes vary for stairs, landings, headroom and handrails; not a compliant stair design.
When ordering materials, confirm actual dimensions, product labels, packaging quantities and site measurements. Results are indicative material quantities, not an engineering, regulatory, or purchasing guarantee.
Measurement and rounding
Switch between metric and US customary measurements above. Values are converted internally to canonical SI measurements before the calculation and displayed in both systems where relevant. Whole product quantities are rounded upward; measured quantities are presented with sensible decimal precision.
Why no automatic local prices?
Supplier prices vary by city, product, delivery conditions and date. Rather than publish invented prices, this release focuses on measurable quantities. Verified local price books and advanced estimating will be added only when reliable, dated source information is available.
What is excluded?
This tool does not check structural safety, building-code compliance, permits, insurance, electrical safety or site-specific professional requirements. Consult qualified professionals for regulated or safety-critical work.
